Fontana Infield Tailgating – NASCAR Nationwide Series

Fontana, California – Inside Tailgating had our west coast NASCAR and PBR tailgating correspondent Shannon Cain hit the Infield last weekend in Fontana for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race. She rolled in deep to the tailgating lot as part of a six RV entourage just outside the Auto Club Speedway.

This die-hard NASCAR troupe showed up on Wednesday March 23rd to secure tailgating spots for the RVs and they stayed through Monday. Check out her pictures to see the sea of RVs here. They kept themselves busy with their tailgating neighbors enjoying bag toss, ladder golf toss and card games in the lots.

On Saturday the NASCAR tailgating crew locked up the RVs and grabbed a seat inside the Auto Club Speedway. Shannon’s crew was rooting for Kasey Kahne and Jeff Gordon, but Kyle Busch took home his third consecutive win at Fontana, landing him his 46th NASCAR Nationwide Series victory.  On Sunday for the Sprint Cup Series race Kevin Harvick zoomed by the checked flag, taking the lead over Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson in a stunning victory at the Auto Club 400.

With a record breaking 88,000 fans in attendance at the Auto Club Speedway, the tailgating matched the enthusiasm for the race. Shannon and her crew enjoyed  hamburgers, hot dogs, trip tip, meatball soup, carne asada and chili all week, but their best food was the cake flavored jello shots and cupcakes soaked in cotton candy vodka topped with strawberry Everclear frosting.

Wait…did you read that right? Yes, cotton candy vodka soaked cupcakes with strawberry Everclear frosting.

Fortunately Shannon shared the recipe:

Hey guys! I am Shannon Cain and I want to share with you my recipe for my delish tailgating cupcakes. They are so simple to make so I hope you’ll bring them with you to your next tailgate party!

  1. So what you do is make one box of cupcake mix, per the instructions on the box.
  2. Once the cupcakes are done cooking poked holes in top of each.
  3. Poured your choice of flavored vodka over the top – we used cotton candy flavored vodka.
  4. Let the vodka soak in while you prepare the frosting.
  5. Grab your frosting of choice and mix in 1/3 cup of Everclear.
  6. Spread on cupcakes.
  7. ENJOY!!

So there you have it tailgating folks! Good ‘ol NASCAR tailgating at its finest!
