Charlotte, NC – The Queen City certainly rev’d up her engines in anticipation of the 2011 Race Week! Fans from around the country flocked to uptown Charlotte for the 17th annual Food Lion Speed Street festival in celebration of stars, cars, and guitars. From Thursday May 26th – Saturday May 28th the Inside Tailgating crew provided tailgating games for the Food Lion TG4 Challenge and the Red Baron Pizza Kids Zone. And lucky for us, we were right next the the Taste of Food Lion cooking stage with celebrity Racing Chef – Nicky Morse.
NASCAR super fans enjoyed concerts, meeting their favorite drivers, and tasting delicious pre-race treats from Johnsonville Sausage, Frito Lay, Lunchables, Oscar Mayer and more in uptown Charlotte all weekend. At the Food Lion TG4 Challenge race fans had a chance to take home $10,000 for a perfect score at all four tailgating games! Included were My Pole-ish Horseshoes, WT2 Washer Toss, BT2 Bag Toss, and miniBT2 Bag Toss games.
Over 3,000 fans enjoyed the tailgating games, but unfortunately none tossed a perfect score. Many of you came close! Everyone was a winner as all participating families received Food Lion drink koozies, coupons, and those with high scores won gift cards to their local Food Lion store. Having spent the previous weekend at the Speedway for the Sprint All-Star Race, I can speak for most fans stating that they were going to need those prizes before heading up to the Charlotte Motor Speedway to tailgate for the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday!
We also go to meet some of NASCAR’s finest! Being next to the Food Lion stage gave us the opportunity to meet Kyle Busch and Ryan Newman as they signed autographs for their biggest fans. And you guys rooted in true spirit! The torrential Carolina spring showers didn’t stop fans from standing in line to meet their favorite drivers! Kudus to you.
Did you make it to the brand spankin’ new NASCAR Hall of Fame? Celebrating it’s first birthday, the HoF is where NASCAR legends race on forever! We were stoked that Speed Street extended to the NASCAR Hall of Fame this year, providing more space and concerts at the Coca-Cola Stage.
