Our pals with Ranucci’s Big Butt BBQ Competition Team headed to Tennessee to compete in their second Memphis in May’s World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. Barbecue enthusiasts from around the nation gathered at Tiger Lane at the Mid-South Fairgrounds to compete for over $110,000 in prizes. They event even hosts a Ms. Piggie Idol competition!
Here’s the scoop from Zoe Ranucci: The Ranuccis are an Italian family from upstate New York that have come to conquer BBQ in the South! They began competing and catering in 2005. In September 2009 the competition team took 1st Place in Shoulder at the Shout Blues, Brews, & BBQ Festival in Charlotte, NC. This win awarded Ranucci’s entry to the 2010 Memphis in May’s World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest. Way to turn up the heat guys!
To continue their winning streak the Ranucci’s Big Butt BBQ team continued to cook up shoulders for the Memphis competition. In 2010 the team placed in the top 10 against 63 international teams. In 2011 they continued their winning with another top 10 win!
What’s next? The Big Butt team has been invited to compete in the 2011 Memphis BBQ Network Invitational BBQ Championship.
