In the realm of tailgating, the games can be the deciding factor between a good time and a great time. If you can show off your skills (or lack thereof) in these tests of supremacy, you are bound to create brand new memories and give yourself a chance at legendary status, while making a plethora of new tailgating friends. Recently, a new game is making its rounds at tailgating functions creating quite a buzz. The game is called Basket-Pong and it takes the spirit and excitement of Beer Pong and combines it with the skill and precision shooting of basketball. The game was created by West Virginia based company XPS (Xtreme Pong Sports) and was designed to add a little flavor to the tailgating scene. XPS founder and CEO Paul Cappuccio sheds some light on how they came up with this new take on an old favorite:
“At XPS, we strive to create innovative and exciting games for recreation, fun, tailgating, and college life, and Basket-Pong is a result of that effort. We also drew inspiration from games like basketball, darts and bag toss/cornhole.”
The game is not hard to pick up as the goal of the game is quite simple: Eliminate each basket by shooting the Basket-Pong balls into the cups or nets at a distance of eight feet from the backboard. Traditional basketball-related games such as Horse or 21 can also be played with the Basket-Pong set. There is no limit to how many people can play the game at once, whether participants are playing individually or as a team, the game can be enjoyed by all! XPS will have its own Basket-Pong area at MegaGate 2012 so that tailgating experts and spectators can see the game for themselves. “We will have an area set up where attendees can try-out and play Basket-Pong at MegaGate,” says Cappuccio.
“We are very excited about giving people first-hand experience with the game and showcasing the versatility of the product. BasketPong has many different applications and can be played a variety of different ways by people of all ages. We also encourage people to come up with new ways to play the game.”
