The biggest game of the college football season occurs on Monday when No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama square off in the BCS National Championship in New Orleans. If you’re planning on joining the 150,000 or so fans to party outside the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, here are three things you need to know:
1) SAINTS GO MARCHING IN
Not only is the city of New Orleans buzzing with the state’s No. 1 school playing for a national title, but the NFL’s Saints are also hosting a playoff game this weekend, as the Detroit Lions roll into the Superdome on Saturday night. If you’re planning on heading down to Bourbon Street on Saturday night, best of luck trying to move. Tickets for this NFC Wild Card playoff showdown can be purchased at StubHub.com, starting at $135 a pop and jumping up to $750 for a prime seat.
2) TAKE A WHIZ
Although public urination is not tolerated in any way, shape or form on Bourbon Street, there is a smart way to take a Whiz in New Orleans. At Park Whiz.com, you can reserve your game day parking space now and have one less thing to worry about. Spaces are still available for both Lions-Saints and the BCS Championship game.
3) HIP TO BE SQUARE
If you’re looking for a huge, free party with tons of people and awesome live music, then you need to head over to Champions Square. Pictured above, Champions Square, is an outdoor festival venue that covers 121,000 square feet of space under the shadow of the Superdome. It opened to the public in August 2010 and just recently added amphitheater seating and permanent restrooms. The square opens at 2:00 with the Mojeaux Band taking the grand stage at 2:15. Both schools’ official marching bands will perform in the 5 o’clock hour leading up to Monday’s 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
