White Claw, DEVOUR Pizza + Games & Guests
Wow, what a six days we had in our Inside Tailgating Lounge at the American Cornhole League World Championships in King of Prussia, Penn! It was the last stop of our action-packed ACL National tour this summer. And from August 6-11, it was wall-to-wall pizza, cornhole, beer pong, flip cups, giant jenga, some pool time, and a whole lot of spiked seltzer!
Between eating our DEVOUR pizza and enjoying various flavors of White Claw, we interviewed a host of interesting characters, whether it was Australian cornhole players, who flew all the way from home to compete; Shaun Latham, better known as 20 Dollar Chef from Barstool Sports; Philly sports radio legend Tony Bruno; and one of our favorites, ACL championships broadcast analyst Trey Ryder (who didn’t live up to his big talk about teaching us some new games. Well, there’s always next year…)
Players, ESPN & Cash
The ACL Championships had more players (more than 1,000) and more divisions (from Juniors to All Forces to DEVOUR Man of the Year, some 30 in all) than we could keep straight. Meaning, a lot of opportunities to win and a bunch of prize money paid out to players – nearly $250,000 in all. Did we mention that ESPN was there covering it the whole way, spanning a total of five live broadcasts on ESPN2 and ESPN3?
Breakout Star
A highlight of the week for me, was meeting 17 year-old cornhole player, Hunter Thorne and his father, Mike on the first day while we were setting up for the week. They traveled all the way from California, as had I, for Hunter’s first ever ACL event. He met, and teamed up with, Tucker Stills after arriving, and the two of them proceeded to win the Junior Doubles division – all on ESPN. Not bad for his first time out!
Next up for the ACL is the Subway College Cornhole Tour and the LandShark Co-Ed Cornhole Series. Get more info on their website: https://iplayacl.com/.
