Taking candy from a baby is not cool. Just ask villainous Simpsons boss (and high seed in our Simpsons Tailgating Brackets) Mr. Montgomery Burns, who wound up getting shot in the chest trying to take candy from baby Maggie. However, when the baby has his hands wrapped around some beercandy, the responsible action is to yank that morsel with all of your might and then eat it quickly, just to keep the kid safe.
Beercandy Inc. was created by Steve Casselman, who began home-brewing beer shortly after graduating UCLA with a mathematics degree. After winning several awards for his beer-making skills, he and his wife began developing caramels with a hint of beer. After rave reviews from samplers, the company was born and launched in 2010.
The company now makes three types of candy — caramels, Beertaffy and hopdrops. The caramels, which the web site exclaims are “in season,” include India Pale Ale caramel covered in white chocolate (pictured above), Lager caramel in milk chocolate, Raspberry Lambic caramel in dark chocolate and Stout caramel in dark chocolate. All of these are made with real craft beer. Beertaffy also has assorted flavors similar to the caramels.
If hard candies are more your taste, then the hopdrops are for you. These contain American Cascade hop oil, which helps gives the candy its bite to go along with its bitterness. This bitter bite won’t be nearly as alarming as the skin-breaking chomp that baby gives you for taking his candy. Then again, responsible parents would never give candy to a young child, so you should be in the clear if you’re hanging out with the right crowd.
