Most visitors to this website really know meat. They are well-versed in how to select, prepare and eat all different types of animal flesh. But there might not be anyone in this country that is more familiar with meat then Pat LaFrieda, Jr., better known to New Yorkers as the “Meat Prince.”
LaFrieda Jr. is the CEO of Pat LaFrieda Meat Purveyors, a meat-packing facility that originated in Manhattan before recently relocating to North Bergen, NJ. His company has been thriving for more than 90 years and now they sell meat to nearly 600 of New York City’s top restaurants. They also create more than 50 custom hamburger blends for tailgaters to enjoy throughout the land.
The “Meat Prince” is a third-generation meat man, learning the tricks of the trade from his father and grandfather when he was just 10 years old. “There was something about what we did and how we did it which fascinated me. The thought that being successful meant that the family survived… was poetic to me,” LaFrieda Jr. says on the company’s web site.
The company’s slogan is a simple, but effective, “Eat My Meat.” Their business works around the clock with meat ground fresh daily around 3 a.m. every day. In addition to New York City, LaFrieda meats are also available in other parts of the country, most notably Cleveland and Philadelphia.
