No one wants to be stuck in the kitchen babysitting a roast to make sure it hits the correct temperature, especially while everyone else is carousing in the other room. But take your eyes off that finicky pork loin and you may very well be serving dry, disappointing chops.
The techies over at iGrill came up with an app-enabled wireless Bluetooth meat thermometer so you can return to the party while still monitoring your culinary masterpiece through your Apple or Android devices. Once you purchase the iGrill kit (which includes the iGrill Device, two meat/temperature probes, 4 AA batteries, and instructions), just download the free app and get cooking! Insert one of the probes into the thickest part of your roast, set the iGrill Device for your desired temperature, and throw that beast onto the grill or into the oven.
Not unlike baby monitors before it, iGrill allows you to wander up to 200 feet away from your heat source while still keeping an eye on your baby: that impressive standing rib roast. You can check the app to see what temperature your roast currently is at and an alarm on your phone or tablet will alert you when it has reached your set temperature. Take out your dinner, let it rest, and then carve away.
Though the initial investment in iGrill may seem a little pricy (about $80 for what is essentially a fancy meat thermometer) is there really a price you can put on a properly cooked party centerpiece? Let iGrill do the monitoring so you can get back to the important stuff: watching the game, entertaining friends, and loving life.
