A good spirit for a tailgate is gin. Not a liquor that works well on its own, gin is a great mixer.

Negroni

Orson Wells once said of a Negroni; “The bitters are excellent for your liver, the gin is bad for you. They balance each other”
Recipe adapted from Gary Regan and Liquor.com
- 1.5 oz Campari
- 1.5 oz Sweet vermouth
- 1.5 oz Gin
- Garnish: Orange twist
- Glass: Old Fashioned
Build in an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice. Stir briefly and garnish with an orange twist.
In Flanders Field
Developed by “Dennis” of Rock & Rye
- 1 1/2oz Gin
- 1 oz Lemon Juice
- 4 oz Belgian style Tripel
Glass: Highball or Pilsner
Garnish: None
Build in a chilled pilsner glass
The “Rockefeller” Martini
- equal parts: London dry gin and Noilly Prat Vermouth
- a dash of orange bitters
Garnish: Lemon or olive
Stir with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a lemon twist or olive
Astor Cocktail
Recipe adapted from Albert Stevens Crockett’s 1931 ‘The Old Waldorf-Astoria Bar Book’ where the drink accompanied by the following notation, “Perhaps [named] after William Waldorf, who built the original Waldorf. However, chances are, it was originated either at the old Astor House or the Astor Hotel, and took its name from its bar of nativity.” – Difford’s Guide
- 1¼ shot Tanqueray London Dry Gin
- 1 shot Swedish Punch liqueur
- ¼ shot Freshly squeezed lemon juice
- ¼ shot Freshly squeezed orange juice
Shake all ingredients with ice and fine strain into chilled glass.
Everest Cocktail

- 1 oz Coco Lopez Cream of Coconut
- .75 tsp Curry powder
- 2.5 oz Beefeater 24 Gin
- .5 oz Fresh lemon juice
Garnish: Curry powder
Glass: Cocktail
Stir together the cream of coconut and curry powder to make a paste. Add the paste and the remaining ingredients to a shaker. Fill with ice and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a sprinkle of additional curry powder.
