In National Lampoon’s European Vacation made in 1985, a flight attendant asked Clark Griswald if he’d like his Coke in the can. After looking down the aisle towards the bathroom, he replied, “No, I’ll just have it right here, thanks.” In 2011, Griswald would likely have a different, and much-less funny reply, probably saying something like, “Yes, but also in a Tinchilla.”
The Tinchilla instant can cooler certainly lives up to its name because this contraption can transform a warm can of soda or beer to “substantially cooled” in about 60 seconds. All you need is two AA batteries and a small amount of ice to make this scientific wonder work “up to 240 times faster than a fridge.”
The design is brilliant. By spinning the can at a high speed, the metal of the container is quickly cooled by the ice. It also creates a whirlpool effect, which allows the majority of the liquid to touch the now-cool metal inside while moving the heat outside to the ice that is still engulfing the can. But maybe the most impressive part is that even with all of this fast spinning action, you can open the beverage immediately without fear of it spraying up your nose or bubbling over the edge. Even the clumsiest Griswald in the world could figure out how to use this most-handy device.
