Masters Egg Salad Sandwich Tips & FAQs
What ingredients go in egg salad?
Basic egg salad starts with hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper. From there, you can add extras like chopped celery, green onions, pickles, relish, or herbs depending on your taste.
What’s in the Masters egg salad?
The Masters egg salad sandwich is a classic Southern-style mix of chopped hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, a touch of mustard, a sprinkle of salt and pepper, and sometimes a hint of paprika for color and flavor enjoyed on fluffy white bread (crusts removed).
For our recipe we took some liberties and added some extras like relish, celery, lettuce, and Worcestershire sauce, and used sourdough bread. We’ve found this to be a great version for tailgates and parties, but you can go traditional or customize to your heart’s content—there’s no wrong way to enjoy this masterful favorite!
What mayonnaise do the Masters use?
The Masters traditionally use a smooth, creamy mayonnaise like Duke’s or Hellmann’s to keep the egg salad rich and perfectly spreadable.
What is the secret to the best egg salad?
The key to a great egg salad is chopping the eggs just right—small enough to mix evenly but not so fine that it becomes mushy—and using enough mayo to make it creamy without drowning the flavor.
Is it healthy to eat egg salad every day?
Egg salad can be part of a balanced diet, but because it’s high in fat and calories from the mayo, it’s best enjoyed a few times a week rather than every day. You can also lighten it up with Greek yogurt or avocado as a mayo swap.
What is the breakfast sandwich at the Masters?
The Masters breakfast sandwich usually features the classic egg salad tucked between a soft, buttery biscuit or croissant, sometimes with a slice of cheese or a bit of bacon for an extra kick. There’s also the crowd pleasing chicken biscuit (recipe in the following link). For an entire Masters themed day, check out our 15 Classic Masters Recipes From The Augusta National Golf Club Menu.
